Job Description: The School Counseling Program at the University of Massachusetts Boston seeks a non tenure-track Professor to join the Department of Counseling and School Psychology in the College of Education and Human Development, beginning September 1, 2018. Responsibilities include: (1) teach master’s level courses; (2) advise master’s students; (3) assist recruitment and selection of new master’s students ; and 4) contribute service to the University’s urban mission, to University and Departmental committees, and to professional associations. The School Counseling Program is aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model and the Massachusetts Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs. The Program emphasizes a social justice agenda, especially focusing on the prevention and elimination of the opportunity and achievement gaps. Students are prepared to deliver a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and the program of studies is approved by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council.
Requirements: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, or a field related to school counseling and evidence of excellence in teaching. Experience as a school counselor or other educator in urban schools is highly desirable. The successful candidate would join a department whose mission is to promote social justice in diverse communities.
The Department: The School Counseling Program is housed in the Department of Counseling and School Psychology within the College of Education and Human Development (http://www.umb.edu/academics/cehd). The Department includes 17 full-time faculty, and serves approximately 300 graduate students working toward degrees in school counseling, mental health counseling, counseling psychology, and school psychology.
