Associate Director - Labor Relations & Compliance
General Summary of Position:
Reporting to the Director of Employee & Labor Relations, the Associate Director for Labor Relations and Compliance provides assistance, advice and counsel in the administration of the collective bargaining agreements and other labor relations and HR compliance matters. The Associate Director maintains and reviews collective bargaining agreements, in coordination with the Director of Employee & Labor Relations. Researches and prepare documents used for labor and employment-related litigation. Provides support for employee and labor relations matters. Provides assistance in the review and preparation of University policies and procedures and other documents.
The ideal candidate will be expected to build effective partnerships with colleagues throughout the University by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed; ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information; maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles; establishing and maintaining an environment which fosters effective labor relations.
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Labor Relations, Management, or other related field required
- 7-10 years directly related experience involving labor relations and employment-related litigation including experience conducting EEO related investigations and responding to external complaints
- Prior experience with public sector unions and/or higher education labor relations or human resources
- Demonstrated knowledge of current Human Resources Management practices
- Knowledge of appropriate federal and state labor laws and practices
Additional Considerations:
- Knowledge of appropriate UMass Trustee and campus’ regulations, policies and practices
- Ability to work effectively in both a team/group environment, and independently with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to effectively communicate with internal and external staff and outside agencies both verbally and in writing
- Proven ability to effectively provide information in an individual or group presentation
- Proven ability to maintain integrity and confidentiality of the university’s HR informational data
- Demonstrated experience implementing a variety of HR Management initiatives, programs and policies
- Proven ability to effectively supervise and motivate office personnel
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and other Microsoft Office programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in a related field preferred
