General Summary of Position:
The Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the area of Prevention Science to begin in the academic year 2019-2020. We welcome applicants who have expertise in developing and studying interventions that prevent psychosocial problems and promote health and wellbeing. We are especially interested in applicants whose work emphasizes the design, implementation, evaluation, and/or dissemination of prevention and intervention science. Although area of content expertise is open, we are interested in applicants with expertise in: (a) targeting pressing public health priorities, (b) reducing health, mental health, or educational disparities and promoting equity, (c) addressing the needs of underrepresented and underserved populations (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, LGBTQI+ communities, older adults, and people with (dis)abilities), and / or (d) community-based approaches to prevention and promotion. The department has a strong record of interdisciplinary scholarship across multiple areas including immigration, violence, health disparities, prejudice and discrimination, disability, child maltreatment, age-related diseases, behavior analysis, and clinical disorders.
Responsibilities involve maintaining an active program of research, including pursuit of external funding, teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, supervising theses/dissertations, and engaging in departmental and university service. Candidates must have a PhD in psychology or a related field at the time of hire, and an established record of publication.

The College has seen significant growth in recent years, including hiring over 60 new faculty, a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and the addition of several new interdisciplinary graduate programs. The department has strong ties to the community of Lowell, a mid-sized city with a diverse population located 25 miles northwest of Boston and within two hours of mountains and beaches.
