ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, UPHS AND CENTERS & INSTITUTES
Duties: Reporting to the Director of Development, University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS), provide professional-level events support for UPHS and Centers & Institutes (C&I) fund raising programs. Duties will be events-related and focus on creative and logistical leadership for, and implementation of, key events, including: leadership council meetings, dean lunches and CEO lunches with donor prospects, discovery events to engage new donor prospects, departmental specialty receptions, and other select cultivation and stewardship events. Determine a budget for an event and work with the appropriate staff to clarify the cost center responsible for those costs; initiating contact with outside vendors; working with UPHS and Perelman School of Medicine staff to secure rooms for events; updating relevant internal and external stakeholders on the progress of planning prior to an event; taking an appropriate leadership role the day of an event, or working with the appropriate staff member to understand who should be in that role; meeting with appropriate gift officers following an event to debrief and to determine if there are any appropriate follow-up steps required. Take a leadership role with select strategic events for clinical departments, centers, and institutes that are designed to engage new prospects or steward existing donors, including donor prospect lunches with the Dean and the CEO. Provide consultative advice for third parties organizing fundraising events to benefit UPHS and C&I programs.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. 3-5 years relevant experience in fast-paced office environment, preferably in institutional development, with a track record of success in events support and leadership. Strong administrative experience and the ability to establish objectives and organize a successful approach to achieving events and fund-raising goals. Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and as part of a larger goal-oriented team. Candidates must be able to work equally effective with many different work and communication styles, and be able to communicate regularly progress toward goals during the planning of events. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively via email and letter. Superior attention to detail in an environment where accuracy and timely completion of tasks is critical to maintaining progress toward office-wide and event-specific goals. Solid computer skills required: familiarity with prospect management databases, report writing aptitude, web sites, internet, word processing, etc. Proficiency in preparation of numeric- and text-laden spreadsheets, Power Point, Excel, etc. Capability to handle complex and highly confidential information. Ability to travel both locally and nationally, must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed. Ability to lift us to 25 pounds. Valid driver's license required.
