Duties: Under the administrative direction of the Executive Deputy Director of the Gene Therapy Program, the Senior Director, Fiscal Operations (SDFO) will establish and maintain GTP's complex budget and forecasting processes, as well as finance and budget policies and practices in accordance with University policy. The SDFO is responsible for the management of financial resources, capital assets, budgeting, development of reports for internal and external audiences, the maintenance of financial fund records, and for assessing the accuracy of financial records and the effectiveness of internal controls. The SDFO shall manage the Office of Fiscal Operations, directing the work of its professional staff with a significant focus on financial planning and analysis. The SDFO shall build or provide complex financial models and databases for Management to analyze its financial performance and/or to project/model the resources it needs to meet its future scientific objectives. The position requires essential communication to ensure that financial goals and results are known, managed, adjusted, and achieved. The SDFO shall assure compliance with all University fiscal policies, as well as those associated with all funding sources, including public (e.g., NIH) or private (Sponsored Research) and at all times comply with state and federal laws and regulations.
Qualifications: A Masters in Business Administration (MBA) specializing in finance or accounting or equivalent with at least 7-10 years of broad finance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. The ideal SDFO candidate will be a seasoned and mature leader, ideally beginning in finance or accounting, followed by experience gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. S/he must have experience developing and implementing budgeting and forecasting processes in a complex, dynamic environment. S/he should also have strong experience operating in a fund accounting environment and have managed in a complex, multi-project organization. The ideal candidate will also have at least five years of experience in a senior management position in a finance department of a biopharmaceutical company or academic-healthcare institution. S/he should have experience leading the finance function (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting), as well as experience developing revenue projections, financial models and budgets, managing audits, and financial reporting in internal and external formats.
