DEPARTMENT/SCHOOL: Accounting, College of Arts and Sciences
AVAILABLE: September 2019
POSTING DATE: June 15, 2018
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Review begins September 7, 2018. Open until filled.
The Department Accounting at the University of Redlands, College of Arts and Sciences, invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, or Clinical Professor, in our B.S. Accounting degree program. The position start date is September 2019.
The University of Redlands is a private liberal arts university founded in 1907. The University has three schools: a College of Arts and Science, School of Business, and School of Education. The main campus, which houses the College of Arts and Sciences, is in a town sixty miles east of downtown Los Angeles and forty-five miles west of Palm Springs. A commuter rail connecting downtown Los Angeles to the Redlands campus will be complete in 2020. The town of Redlands, as well as the campus, is interspersed with orange groves and historic buildings. Proximity to the San Bernardino Mountains offers a variety of recreational opportunities.
The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) enrolls over 2,400 undergraduates and 100 graduate students. Class size is small, often less than 20 students. Faculty and student interaction across departments is an essential feature of the college. Immersion of accounting majors in the full liberal arts experience prepares our graduates to be articulate critical thinkers.
The Department of Accounting (http://www.redlands.edu/study/schools-and-centers/college-of-arts-and-sciences/undergraduate-studies/accounting/) delivers accounting education that is richly contextualized within economic, political, psychological, and professional knowledge. Further, the Department has a proud tradition of sending about 90% of B.S. Accounting graduates to full-time placement with accounting firms—50% of placements with Big-4 firms. B.S. Accounting majors achieve within four years the 150 hours and requisite course coverage for licensure in the state of California.
Qualifications: Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in Accounting by August 31, 2019. Preferred candidates will have expertise in financial accounting and finance. Experience in audit and/or accounting information systems is also highly desirable. Prior involvement with diverse student populations will be very beneficial.
Duties include innovative teaching, research (for an Assistant Professor), mentoring and advising students, and maintaining relationships with alumni. The academic year is comprised of a fall semester (early September to mid-December), spring semester (mid-January to late April), and May term (when curriculum ventures into new topics and experiential learning). The successful applicant will collaborate with the Accounting colleagues to determine when course assignments occur.
Inquiries: Inquiries should be directed to Renée Hall (renee_hall@redlands.edu), Department Chair. Dr. Hall will attend the American Accounting Association Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., this August, and welcomes conversations with interested parties.
To Apply: Applicants are asked to send (1) a letter addressing professional and scholarly accomplishments, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) evidence of teaching excellence, including experience working with students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, and (4) three letters of reference from individuals able to address potential for teaching and research. Electronic copies of materials should be submitted to Apply@redlands.edu. Limit attachments to 10 MB per email. Review of applications will begin September 7 and continue until the position is filled.
In compliance with The Americans with Disability Act, if selected for the interview process and accommodations are needed, please call (909) 748-8040.
SUBMISSION OF A CURRICULUM VITAE OR APPLICATION INDICATES AGREEMENT THAT THE UNIVERSITY MAY VERIFY ANY AND ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED THEREIN.
