Diversity Resources: 

The Office of Disability Support Services (DSS) provides services for students with disabilities are provided through the Disabilities Support Services office in the Juan Chacon Building, Suite 147. Some examples of the assistance provided are: audio materials for the blind or dyslexic, note takers, readers, audio recorders, and quiet testing areas are available to all WNMU students. In order to qualify for these services, documentation must be provided by certified health care professionals. DSS assists in creating an accessible university community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the educational environment. We cooperate through partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to promote students' independence and to ensure recognition of their abilities, not disabilities.

Organizations/clubs/social networks: 

The Office of Multicultural Affairs/Student Activities, in conjunction with the entire WNMU community, supports and encourages all students in achieving their educational goals. The Director of Multicultural Affairs/Student Activities is a liaison between the minority student and the university to facilitate communication, and programs and activities that enhance student life.



This office maintains active liaison with all student organizations and regional schools. Western New Mexico University understands and promotes the awareness of our diversity.

Community: 

Western New Mexico University has served the people of the state of New Mexico and its surrounding areas as a comprehensive, regional, rural, public coeducational university since 1893 and serves a student body diverse in age, culture, language and ethnic background.

The University setting in a historic southwestern community gives students the opportunity to learn about a diverse population and culture.  On campus, students enjoy year round access to the WNMU Museum, which houses the world’s largest permanent collection of Mimbres pottery, and the Francis McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art where students experience visual and media exhibits by internationally-renowned artists.

What better place to earn a quality education than Silver City.  With great weather and a scenic environment, students learn to take pleasure in the great outdoors while still enjoying the benefits and amenities of a small city.
