Job Description:
Wittenberg University is recruiting for a Director of Accessibility Services to provide strategic oversight for accessibility services that enhance the student experience with a specific focuson both the support and retention of students with disabilities and compliance with federal regulations. The Director will ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to participate in and benefit from all curricular and co-curricular programs and services at Wittenberg University.
Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluate and interpret disability documentation for eligibility determination. Implement reasonable accommodations consistent with current law, identifiy best practices within the field and maintain confidentiality of records.
- Review, develop, and implement policies and procedures for providing individualized accommodations and equal access for students in accordance with legal requirements.
- Meet individually with students to discuss current accommodations, assess need for reevaluation of accommodations, foster student self-advocacy, and improve communication with instructors/staff throughout the student'sacademic enrollment.
- Coordinate services for students with temporary disabilities.
- Advocate on behalf of students with faculty and staff to ensure proper facilitation of academic, program, and housing accommodations.
- Plan and facilitate accessibility student workshops.
- Work closely with the Department of Residence Life regarding housing and dining accommodation needs for students with disabilities.
- Work directly with Physical Plant to maintain and improve accessibility on campus.
- Serve as a liaison to the faculty and campus community on issues related to a range of disabilities, classroom and curriculum accommodations, and compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Fair Housing Act.
- Oversee coordination of accommodated testing, note taking program, alternative academic material formats and texts, assistive technology, etc.
- Develop and maintain accessibility program materials, website, and other technology.
- Plan and implement program assessment to ensure quality and effectiveness of services.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of diagnostic and instructional methods and emerging technologies that help students with access and learning. Learn, apply, and train others to administer emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary.
- Meet with prospective students, current students, and family members to consult, review documentation, and discuss eligibility for accommodations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
For this position, we require a Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Rehabilitation Counseling, Educational Psychology, Special Education, or related field; at least three years of full-time professional, related experience; knowledge of disability laws and implications for higher education, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Fair Housing Act; understanding the mission and values of a residential, liberal arts institution; experience creating and implementing student success programs and retention initiatives; excellent written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal and public relations skills; andthe ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to support student events.
