Job Responsibilities:
The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applications for an Accounting Manager in the Finance office. This position will provide top managerial activities with respect to the interaction of accounting systems and procedures throughout the college while directly supervising the accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, fixed asset, endowments and financial reporting operations within the Director of Financial Services Office. Will work as the liaison with other campus departments to streamline processing while ensuring appropriate controls. Will oversee the preparation of all The Citadel's financial statements; this includes financial statements for The Citadel, The Citadel Trust, the NCAA, the Commission on Higher Education, the State Controller General, the US Census Department and accrediting agencies. Manages preparation of responses to information requests made by other governmental entities, such as the Commission of Higher Education, IPEDS, as well as information requests from throughout the college, ensuring that the information not only reconciles to the audited financial statements, but also providing a top level analysis and interpretation of the reports to make sure that the information makes sense with what has actually occurred at the college.
Must be able to interact with Vice Presidents, Deans, and Department Heads to initiate changes in procedures and improve internal controls. Will work as the primary contact for auditors, both internal and external. Assist the auditors with the system information, schedule requests for additional data, prepare worksheets, and respond to audit concerns. Acts as liaison for the auditor when the auditor needs to work with executive level management in other areas of the college. Prepares Capital Project Summary, Capital Project Funding and Budget Comparison. Trains accounting staff and other campus departments, in matters related to financial accounting and reporting. Researches and implements generally accepted accounting, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, State CG, and other revisions to reporting standards and will coordinate changes throughout the college to remain in conformance. Will be the liaison with executive level management as well as department/activity heads and ITS to ensure the most efficient use of the computer modules and the reporting capabilities available.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a bachelor's degree with accounting courses and professional experience in related area such as accounting, auditing, banking or finance. A CPA is required. Must be able to handle stress. Must be able to communicate and manage other personnel. Must possess an executive view of college operations.
Must have a strong technical accounting background. Must have knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of accounting and financial management. Experience in fund accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger systems and strong analytical and research skills are required. In depth knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to endowment fund management is critical. Must be able to work independently. This position should have significant independence in the interpretation and application of accounting principles.
