Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities (OSRR) staff fosters student growth by promoting students’ awareness and understanding of their rights and responsibilities as community members, addressing student conduct and creating developmental learning opportunities, and engaging students in ethical decision-making. OSRR administers the East Carolina University Student Code of Conduct, which governs students’ on- and off-campus conduct. Office staff is also engaged in campus education on various issues, such as academic integrity, citizenship development, and conflict resolution. |
Job Duties |
The Assistant Director has administrative responsibility for monitoring the policies and procedures of the University student conduct system, for administering the Student Code of Conduct. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities oversees administration and supervision of the University student conduct system with authority to formulate and carry out institutional policy. To that end, the Assistant Director acts as an administrative hearing officer which includes, counseling students on conduct matters; enacting appropriate sanctions or referring to the Conduct Board, and monitoring sanctions; initiates correspondence sent to students involved in disciplinary infractions and their parents; meets with the Leadership Team to review major cases assigned to the Conduct Board; assists in the selection of new Conduct Board members, hearing chairs, and Leadership Team; initiates and delivers ongoing training for the members of the Conduct Board and the Academic Integrity Board; educates the University community about the campus conduct process through lectures and participation at various programs and classes, residence halls, and during New Student Orientation; participates in special projects and serves on various University committees as assigned by the Director. This is a temporary full-time position for six months. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Bachelor degree required. A minimum of three years of experience at the post-secondary level, including the administration of a student code of conduct or a housing lease/contract is required. An understanding of student development and counseling theories and the ability to apply theory in practice in a university setting is necessary. |

Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related behavioral science preferred. Completion of the Gehring Academy Institute curriculum is preferred. |
