Job Description: |
The candidate is expected to develop a strong, extramurally-funded research program in the area of plant virology with significant attention to viruses impacting Kansas agriculture. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, virus-host interactions, arthropod vector-virus-host interactions, virus evolution, and applied virology. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and highly collaborative community of basic and applied life scientists, in departments and institutes across campus. Collaborative research opportunities likely exist within the departments of Agronomy (http://www.agronomy.k-state.edu), Entomology (http://entomology.k-state.edu), the Division of Biology (http://www.k-state.edu/biology/), and within the Ecological Genomics Institute (http://ecogen.k-state.edu). The successful candidate will teach a graduate course in plant virology and another graduate course in his/her area of specialty, each taught in alternate years. The appointee is expected to actively participate in the plant pathology graduate program. The candidate must be able to work in a multi-cultural setting. |
Required Minimum Qualifications: |
Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology or related discipline with a strong component in plant virology; Demonstrated research excellence with the desire to mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; Strong communication skills with a desire to teach and a commitment to expand and foster diversity; Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills that would facilitate work with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams. |
Preferred Qualifications: |
Candidates with postgraduate research experience related to plant virology, especially viruses important to Kansas agriculture, and a track record of securing external funds. |
