Position Title: Director, Student Center and Campus Activities
Department: Chamberlain Student Center and Campus Activities
Position Summary: Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Director will be responsible for the administrative vision, leadership, and management of the Chamberlain Student Center and Campus Activities, a comprehensive department that provides an array of programs, facilities and services in support of the Division of Student Affairs and University’s mission and core values. This position directly oversees the programmatic, service, operational and financial components of the Student Center auxiliary operation and provides overall leadership in establishing initiatives and goals that promote a culture of quality, inclusion and service excellence to the University community.
Specific Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, development and management for student engagement, involvement and community-building opportunities utilizing the 100,000+ square feet of the Chamberlain Student Center; guide the establishment of the department’s strategic plan.
- Direct and oversee all aspects of human resource management (hiring, supervision, evaluation, and professional development) for 19 full time professional and support staff, 8 graduate coordinators and approximately 100 student employees.
- Develop, administer and monitor a comprehensive and fiscally responsible budget in excess of $6,000,000.00. Advocate and secure adequate funding for the effective operation of the department. Oversee proposals, contracts and agreements that ensure departmental success.
- Plan and oversee capital needs and projects based on current and future trends.
- Oversee and ensure a range of programs and services that are designed and implemented to enhance the educational, social, cultural and recreational experiences of students. Ensure a high quality, efficient, and responsive level of consumer-oriented service.
- Direct the establishment, implementation, and enforcement of department priorities, policies, and practices; develop guidelines governing acceptable use of space, hours of operation, rental rates, building access, and security.
- Promote and position the Student Center as central to student learning outside of the classroom, overall campus life, and community building. Support new and existing opportunities for student governance, leadership development, involvement, diversity, volunteerism and student entertainment programming.
- Ensure the operation of the Student Center meets the expectations of its primary stakeholders. Act as spokesperson for and conduct official correspondence on behalf of the department.
- Ensure all Student Center programs and services reflect diversity and inclusion for the campus community.
- Evaluate and ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency through on-going assessment efforts.
- Examine, analyze and evaluate Student Center operations; maximize the current and potential use of the facility; identify opportunities and challenges that may impact the student community.
- Serve as an advocate for students and their needs; keep them informed of the work of the Student Center.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships and collaborations with offices and departments housed within the facility, internal and external constituencies, and campus/divisional partners.
- Provide leadership for university/division committees and initiatives.
- Represent the University at appropriate state, regional, and national professional organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned; work weekends, evenings and travel when required.
Requirements:
Education: A Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, or related field is required.
Required Experience: Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive student union/student activities experience within higher education; and at least four (4) of those years being in facility management. Prior supervisory experience, including the supervision of professional staff. Experience in overseeing and managing substantial budgets. Demonstrated ability to prepare reports, proposals and action plans for upper level administrators. Practical application of leadership/program development and implementation skills.
