Educational and Experience Requirement |
High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent. Minimum of two years clerical or related experience; library experience would be helpful. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. |
Nature & Purpose of Position |
Performs specialized clerical work involving the application of standard library techniques and procedures related to a specific library function. Performs duties requiring basic knowledge of library practices and procedures. |
Primary Responsibilities |
Works with students, faculty, staff and other library users in locating and interpreting library resources in all subject areas. Assists patrons in the use of the library catalog, databases, and other resources to satisfy their information needs. Refers patrons to appropriate subject librarian when necessary. Provides reference services both in-person and virtually through email, phone, text, and chat. Creates and updates slides for the library’s digital signage on the main floor. |
Other Specifications |
Provides routine maintenance on computers, printers and other hardware in the area. Changes toner cartridges; fills paper bins; reports problems to library’s computer maintenance technicians. Picks up materials in the reference area; returns books, newspapers to carts at reference desk; returns periodicals to Circulation. Helps Circulation close the building by clearing the 2nd floor; may need to help clear other areas if there are staffing issues. Other duties as assigned. This position is responsible for the reference desk after 9:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, until closing 1 a.m. (Thursdays 8 p.m. to midnight). During the interim between semesters, and Spring break, the position works between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This is a part-time (20 hours per week) benefits eligible position. |
